Although accurate records are non-existent, the local common wisdom is that the house was originally built in the late 1600s. The roots of the name La Predicata are equally vague although, because the meaning of the word relates to lecturing/speaking, it is believed that it was possibly the residence of a preacher. The original road that ran past the house was named after it - Strada La Predicata.

When I first discovered it in 2006, the house was very much a dilapidated ruin.  Unused (except by chickens and sheep) and forsaken, it had fallen into total disrepair.  The roof structure was unstable, the walls had been ~cracked by centuries of weather and earthquakes, and ‘repaired’ with little thought to aesthetics or long-term stability.  There had also been numerous small additions made over the years which I removed to strip the building back to it’s original form. 

Since the house is the oldest in this region, all work done on the original structure, as well as all new additions, had to have the approval of the Commissione dell’Arte e Cultura in Perugia in addition to the regular and convoluted local building permit process.  Essentially the house had to be rebuilt exactly as it was with all new structures ‘hidden’ from view either behind the house or below the level of the road.

Finally in May of 2010, the work had been completed - 4 long years later.

정확한 기록은 없으나, 오리지널 La Predicata 하우스는 약 1600년대 말쯤에 지어졌을 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 이름의 뿌리 또한 모호하긴 하지만, 아주 오래전 집앞을 지나던 길 이름 Strada La Predicata 에서 따와서 지어졌거나 혹은 단어의 어원으로 미루어 볼때 아마도 설교자의 거주지가 아니였을까 하는 추측을 하고 있지요.

2006년에 처음 발견했을 당시 이집은 빈집으로 버려진채 완전히 황폐한 폐허였습니다. 지붕 구조 는 불안정했고, 벽은 수세기에 걸친 날씨와 지진으로 금이 가있었고, 근대의 이전 소유자들은 미학이나 장기적인 안정성에 대해 거의 생각하지 않고 대충 수리된 상태로 가축의 헛간 용도 정도로만 사용하고 있었지요. 역사적 가치가 있는 건물을 잘 재건하기 위해 건축가인 저는 많은 시간과 노력을 쏟아 재건 설계를 하기 시작하였습니다.

특히나 이 집은 이 지역에서 가장 오래된 역사적 가치가 있는 집이기 때문에, 원래 구조에 대한 모든 재건 작업과 새로이 추가되는 다른 작업까지 매우 복잡한 로컬 지역 건축 허가 과정을 통과해야 했으며 더불어 까다로운 Perugia 에 있는 Commissione dell'Arte e Cultura의 승인까지 받아야 했습니다. 결과적으로 도로쪽에서 볼때 옛 건물 모습 그대로의 보존된 상태로 있어야 했기에 나머지 추가 연장 건설은(게스트하우스,수영장 등) 원래의 집 (본채 메인하우스)구조 보다 지대가 낮게 소위 ‘숨겨진’ 건설이 되어야 했지요.

그렇게 복잡하고 힘들었던 La Predicata 의 복원 및 확장 공사는 무려 4년이라는 긴 시간 끝에 2010년 5월 공사가 완료되었습니다.
